On September 30, 2023, in New Delhi, the Ministry of Education introduced the Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav and held a two-day summit on "Technology & Bharatiya Languages". According to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020's vision, the summit was launched by Union Minister for Education, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Dharmendra Pradhan. According to the NEP-2020 vision, the summit intends to ease the transition from the current educational ecosystem to one that is anchored in Bharatiya languages and to chart the route for a future where Bharatiya languages are more technologically advanced. Technology FOR Bharatiya Languages, Technology IN Bharatiya Languages, and Technology THROUGH Bharatiya Languages are the three key theme sessions covered by the summit. These themes highlight how technology is used to promote Bharatiya Bhasha, including how it can be used for training, testing, and translating instructional resources.
With the active participation of stakeholders from a variety of sectors, including academia, students, researchers, edutech and infotech industry professionals, technical experts, media representatives, and freelancers, the summit aims to map out a comprehensive roadmap for achieving the vision of education in Bharatiya Languages. A expo for Bharatiya Bhasha technology goods and its uses by businesses, governments, and start-ups was also organized.
The Technology & Bharatiya Languages Summit and the Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav represent a crucial step in promoting and protecting India's rich linguistic heritage. In addition to promoting multilingualism and the use of technology in the classroom, the NEP-2020 acknowledges the value of mother tongue-based education. This aim will be realized through the summit, which will also ensure that Bharatiya languages are not left behind in the digital era.
